University of Oxford Joins Stupid Human's research program

The Human Centered Computing Institute within Computer Science Department at the University of Oxford has begun a collaboration with the Swedish Stupid Human to publish pioneering research on AI assistant preferences. The co-authored paper, already presented at ACM's KDD conference and currently under review for publication in an ACM journal, investigates how AI systems that shape human decision-making exhibit systematic preferences.

Originally by Stupid Human’s AI research team led by Katarina Mpofu and Jasmine Rienecker, the study found that AI assistants - specifically ChatGPT-4o and Google Gemini 1.5-flash - exhibit consistent biases, including a strong tendency to favor U.S.-based entities.

These findings raise critical questions about the neutrality of AI recommendations and their impact on global fairness, transparency, and policy.The University of Oxford’s involvement brings additional academic rigor and a global research perspective, strengthening the paper’s methodology and expanding its relevance for policymakers, businesses, and AI developers worldwide.
